“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.”

The Magic Garden Story & Craft Time will be held once a week from the middle of June through September. Children can drop in to help plant, water, weed, and harvest the garden. An age-appropriate story will be read outside in the garden, weather permitting. A garden or plant related craft will be done, such as garden markers, pin wheels, or birdfeeders. Children ages 5 and under must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. For children ages 5 and up, a parent or caregiver must remain in the library but does not need to participate in the program.

The Magic Garden Kick Off Party will be held on Friday, June 15, 3:30 PM. All ages are welcome. The children can help prepare the garden and plant seeds and vegetable plants. Refreshments will be served.

Staffing: The Children’s Librarian will read the story, the YA Librarian will coordinate the gardening activities, the Children’s Department Assistant will set up and lead the craft.

Please note: The Upper Saddle Rive Library has a small vegetable garden that is not in use. It used to be a summer activity for children in grades 3 and up but was not used in conjunction with a storytime. All photos of the garden courtesy of D. Davidowitz.
